Software as a Service

Software as a service is when computer applications are accessed over the internet, without the need to install them locally on the computer. Therefore the only necessity to make use of SAAS is a computer with an internet connection that is reasonably fast. This has many benefits that will be discussed below:

1. Multiple users can work on the document at the same time. This means that two or more people could simultaneously work on a spreadsheet, document or presentation. This allows people from a distance to work together.

2. Data is always saved and kept in the cloud. Since the save files are kept in the cloud and is being constantly updated and saved. Any power outages would not lead to loss of data.

3. More security. Keeping data locally can be vulnerable to theft and other security risks. But when using SAAS the data saved will be on a secure location of the cloud service vendor.

4. Moreover SAAS is also dynamically scalable, this means that consumers and business will be using the software only to the extent they need it. But when they buy software to be installed locally on the office computers, there may be a waste of resources in the sense features that aren't being used.

5. Finally SAAS is device independent. This means that these online applications can be used from any computer, whether they are a PC, Laptop, Tablet or Smartphone doesn't matter. As long as there is an internet connection and a web browser SAAS can be used.

Cloud Computing in Businesses

Cloud computing is where data and software are accessible via the internet. This removes the need to install expensive software and hardware and then run it locally. Therefore it brings many benefits to businesses since they do not have to spend so much on servers and other expensive equipment. Rather they could just run the software in the cloud known as Software as a Service (SAAS), such as Google docs that allow businesses to work with documents, spreadsheets and presentations online which can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

Further if they need the software to be specific for their use, then they could opt for Platform as a Service (PAAS) or Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS). PAAS allows business to build applications based on the tools that the cloud service provider allows, but the latter gives more flexibility to create their own unique applications.

Apart from the huge cost savings brought about by the reduction in spending for expensive hardware, there is also the benefit of less paperwork as more and more data is being stored in the Cloud which abstains the business from being criticised as a non-eco friendly business.

Many businesses, whether large or small scale are starting to use cloud computing as they reap many benefits from it. And in this 21st century, business that stick to the traditional computing way, may be left behind as competitors become more and more efficient in their activities. And it can be seen that a large number or business are already starting to adopt cloud computing services.
